The Champaign County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting applications for full-time Correctional Officers. Essential duties include:
Effectively being able to work under high-stress, high-risk situations.
Safeguard detainees and renders first aid in emergency situations.
Ensures the safety of the community by maintaining a secure jail facility.
Process the intake and release of detainees.
Understand and maintain the rights and privileges of detainees.
Comply with the rules established by the Illinois County Jail Standards.

Correctional Officers work 8-hour shifts, and once hired, you will be required to attend an 8-week training academy within 12 months of your hire date. There is a state-required exam at the end of the academy to finalize your certification. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
Starting salary is $54,0176.60 ($25.97/hour), $61,297.60 ($29.47/hour) after 5 years, and $67,059.20 ($32.24/hour) after 10 years of service. Lateral transfers meeting the requirement under the Sheriff's Merit Commission Experienced Correction Officer Hiring Program will be placed on the wage scale for each year of experience, but not higher than the 5th year of service.
